Most Common Canadian Immigration Options in year 2024
January 2, 2024IRCC Begins Issuing Invitations for 2024 Parents and Grandparents Program
Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is initiating the process of issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). This program allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residence (PR).
Key Details:
- Invitations: 35,700 ITAs will be sent out over the next two weeks.
- Goal: Approve 20,500 complete PR applications.
- Notification: ITAs will be sent to the email address provided in the initial “Interest to Sponsor” form.
Eligibility Criteria for the 2024 PGP
To receive an invitation, sponsors must meet the following criteria:
- Interest to Sponsor Form: Must have been completed on IRCC’s website in 2020 without receiving an ITA in 2020, 2021, 2022, or 2023.
- Status: Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a registered Indian under the Canadian Indian Act.
- Age: Must be 18 years or older.
- Residence: Must reside in Canada and provide proof of status.
- Income: Must exceed the minimum necessary income level, including the income of a spouse or common-law partner if applicable, and provide proof to IRCC.
- Undertaking: Must sign an undertaking to financially support the sponsored individual(s) for 20 years (10 years if in Quebec) and repay any social assistance benefits received by the sponsored family members.
Steps After Receiving an ITA
If you receive an ITA, follow these steps:
- Respond Promptly: Submit your application by the deadline specified in the invitation email.
- Application Fees: Pay the required fees, starting at $1,205 CAD.
- Complete the Application: Use the instruction guide and ensure your application is complete. Submit it via the Permanent Residence portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal if using a representative.
Important: Applications will be returned if they are incomplete, missing fees, submitted late, received without an ITA, or if the information does not match the initial “Interest to Sponsor” form.
Options If You Don’t Receive an ITA
If you do not receive an ITA, consider the Super Visa program as an alternative. The Super Visa allows parents and grandparents to visit Canada for up to five years at a time, with the option to extend for an additional two years. This visa is available year-round with no application limits.
The Super Visa offers a temporary resident status but is a viable pathway to reunite with family members in Canada.
For more information and updates, visit the IRCC website and stay informed about your application process.
